Lifelong Learning Centres Promote ‘Healthy Children’

Lifelong Learning Centres Promote ‘Healthy Children’

This October many of the 150+ Lifelong Learning Centres across Australia are celebrating ‘Healthy Children’ and hosting their own Healthy Children Week.

‘Healthy Children’ is a holistic approach interwoven through the daily operations of all Lifelong Learning Centres. Based around six core themes; Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds, Healthy Food, Healthy Families, Healthy World and Healthy Communities, each of our centres runs their own series of activities, events, incursions and excursions throughout the year promoting the foundations to live a healthy lifestyle.

During Healthy Children Week this October, our centres are taking advantage of the opportunity not only to educate our children about healthy living, but also to bring families together and raise awareness of health-related issues and provide useful information. A wide range of fun activities and events are being hosted across the country such as family sports days, yoga and meditation sessions, healthy cooking classes and bake sales, tree planting, community excursions, charity fund raisers and much more!

Chunnuhan Xu, Assistant Centre Manager at At Box Hill Early Learning Centre shared this photo of their recent excursion. “We celebrated Healthy Children Week by visiting our local library today and we can't wait to take the children on another excursion to our local primary school tomorrow. It feels great to get out and celebrate our wonderful local community!”

During the week commencing 16th October Milestones Early Learning Yanchep will be doing food sampling with families and providing take home recipes, introducing a ‘Donate, Trade & Exchange’ station at their centre for families, and taking the children out on a community clean up at a local park.

Little People’s Retreat Swan View will be hosting a ‘Jumping Jitterbugs’ sports movement class, yoga and meditation sessions, making healthy pizzas, taking an excursion to a local wildlife rescue centre and holding a gardening day!

While Healthy Children Week marks the launch of this holistic approach, it is very much embedded within the Lifelong Learning Centres philosophy to deliver high quality early years education experiences every day.

All Lifelong Learning Centres recognise that establishing healthy habits from a young age are more likely to stay with children as they move through life and provide them with the foundations to flourish. Our educators encourage children to experience and learn about the benefits of wellbeing, and to take increasing responsibility for making good health choices and caring for themselves.

Health is a resource to thrive and Lifelong Learning Centres mission is to help all children realise their full potential, now and into the future.
