Spooky Snacks for Halloween: Meatball Mummies

Not only are these meatball mummies super cute, they’re so delicious too! These would be great to serve at your next Halloween party.

Serves 20

Ingredients:

  • 20 cooked meatballs (homemade or frozen and defrosted - an easy meatball recipe can be found here)

  • 500g block of tasty cheese

  • Container of black olives or 1 eggplant

  • Straw

  • 3 sheets puff pastry or prepared pizza dough

  • Tomato sauce or pasta sauce for dipping

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven according to instructions on dough/pastry packet

  2. Cut dough/pastry into strips approximately 1cm wide

  3. Roll out meatballs slightly so they are elongated (not perfect spheres)

  4. Wrap dough/pastry around meatballs in a messy criss-cross pattern until meatballs are completely covered except for a small space for the eyes

  5. Bake for 20 minutes or until dough/pastry is golden

  6. Meanwhile, cut small circles into slices of tasty cheese (circles should be larger than the straw circumference)

  7. Using the straw, make a hole in the circles of cheese and replace with same sized circles of black olives or eggplant

  8. When meatballs are ready, remove from oven and cool for 3-5 minutes

  9. Add cheese eyes and serve with tomato or pasta sauce!

Tip: you can swap out meatballs for halved hotdogs too!

Recipe Twist

If you prefer sweet treats over savoury snacks, this recipe can be repurposed to create banana mummies.

Simply use store-bought tortillas cut into strips (and covered in peanut butter or nutella) to wrap around halved bananas. Sultanas would be a great addition as eyes, which can be stuck onto your banana mummies with a bit of extra peanut butter or nutella.
