Centres Celebrate Holi, The Festival Of Colours!

This week, many Lifelong Learning Centres across the country celebrated Holi, an ancient Hindu festival signifying the victory of good over evil.

Also known as the ‘Festival of Colours’, children and educators enjoyed a day of playing with colour, water and celebrating happiness. Nobody was off limits from the colour and the fun! Children learnt how to dance, enjoyed traditional music, and discovered the importance of the festival.

Traditionally, the Holi festival helps bring people together and strengthen the sense of community, celebrating as one regardless of social status or wealth. The tradition of Holi is that even enemies turn friends!

Each of the colours have a special significance during the festival - for example,  red represents purity, green promotes vitality, blue instills calm, and yellow reminds those of their cultural and religious beliefs.

Lifelong Learning Centres enjoy celebrating cultural festivals and important days from around the world. Through these special celebrations, children have the opportunity to develop foundations in culture and language. They are a great way to expand children’s knowledge and understanding, and grow their appreciation for the diverse community around them.
