Whilst it may seem like a simple activity, there are ways to make this important developmental task a fun one!
Developmentally, this activity promotes hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and helps to establish hand preference. You can also combine the use of tongs with other activities - like sorting and counting.
This activity can be done with household items - like cotton balls and blocks, but also at meal time. Try offering tongs or chopsticks to your child when eating fruit or cheese slices.
