Meet the Milestones Goulburn green thumbs

Children at Milestones Early Learning Goulburn have been getting their hands dirty - for a good reason, to keep our community healthy!

The rural team in Goulburn have a strong community philosophy  - and that extends to caring for our world in general!

"We believe we have a duty to our community to ensure we are living within our communities' means. We strive to ensure that we are using sustainable practices were possible", explained Milestones Goulburn Assistant Centre Manager, Stacey Whitton-Starling.

"Our educators and children are involved in upcycling, being water wise and reducing paper consumption."

The children are involved in sustainability projects day-to-day, as well as exploring deeper for special projects. Everyday sustainability activities include recycling and reusing craft items, avoiding disposable cups, and keeping the vegetable and herb garden thriving.

For National Science Week, the children explored how our oceans need to be kept healthy too.

"The team of educators and teachers here truly believe in the importance of sustainbility, and the great development benefits for children as well. It is important for children to understand the role the play in their community, and that their relationship with the world can have positive and negative impacts on where we live."

The Healthy Children program includes more than just sustainbility - extending children's learning to understand healthy food choices for growing bodies and minds, and the benefits of keeping active. These simple concepts creates a foundation for reaching development milestones including growth, healthy mindset, physical coordination, cognitive development and social development.

Healthy Children programs are run across our community of Lifelong Learning Centres. Find your closest centre today and take a family tour, to see their programs in action.
