Make sure your child receives Free Kindergarten in 2021

Great news for Victorian families - the Victorian Government has announced a free kindergarten scheme for Victorian children commencing January 2021.

All Lifelong Learning Centres in Victoria are offering families who enrol the opportunity to benefit from this government funded program in 2021.

The benefits for children who attend Kindergarten in a long day care centre rather than a sessional kindergarten include:

  • Flexibility for working parents

  • Extended time socialising with peers

  • Casual learning days available throughout the year

  • Normal operating hours during school holidays

  • Child Care Subsidy eligibility

Who is eligible for free kindergarten?

Eligible four-year old children enrolled in a funded kindergarten program at least 15 hours per week.

What will I receive?

Families will receive a $2000 discount on their 2021 Kindergarten fees paid over a 40-week period.

How do I ensure my child receives the funding?

Your child must have a permanent booking for up to 15 hours or more per week in a funded kindergarten program*.

How is the kindergarten funding provided?

1 – Family confirms permanent booking in Kindergarten program for a minimum of 15 hours per week.

2 – Kindergarten funding of $2000 is credited to family account as a separate lump sum.

3 – While the child is enrolled, 15 hours will be paid for from Kindergarten funding for 40 weeks of the year.

4 – If the child attends more than 15 hours per week, the balance of the weeks’ fees will have CCS applied if the family is eligible.

Example

Harry and Sophia have enrolled their daughter Josie in a Kindergarten program at a long day care centre three days per week. In total, their booking is for 30 hours (3 x 10-hr sessions).

Their full fees will be $360 per week.

Kindy Funding will cover 15 hours - $180 per week.

Their CCS rate of 65% will reduce the out of pocket cost for the remaining balance of the fees to approximately $63 per week.

Questions to ask on your family centre tour

When touring childcare centres for the first time it can be overwhelming.

As the saying goes, ‘first impressions’ count, but taking the time to ask deeper questions and really find out what your early education and childcare centre has to offer you and your child will always be time well spent.
