Affinity Education supporting foster kids with BIG dreams

Affinity Education is proud to once again support National Pyjama Day on the 22 July and is encouraging all 190 centres to get involved to raise funds for children in foster care.

Throughout July, educators and children across all Lifelong Learning Centres, owned and operated by Affinity Education Group, will throw on their favourite PJ’s and get behind this great cause, hosting individual events to encourage families to donate!

Money raised through Affinity Education's fundraiser will allow community mentors called “Pyjama Angels” to be recruited, screened, trained, and then matched with a child in care. Together they read books, play educational games, do home-work and so much more. Most importantly, they empower children with learning, life skills and confidence to reach their full potential.

CEO Tim Hickey said: “The Pyjama Foundation do amazing work, and we are so proud to be raising much-needed funds and awareness for Australian children in foster care this Pyjama Day. We see first-hand at our centres how access to high-quality education and a nurturing environment can change a child’s life – and we are thrilled to be able to support this important cause in a bigger and better way this year.”

Papilio Early Learning Meadowbank rising star, Zoe Aubry, is passionate about giving back. This year, she has her sights set on National Pyjama Day and is encouraging local kids, families and businesses to get involved and raise much needed funds for Australian children in foster care.

In previous years, Zoe has raised funds for the Pyjama Foundation, by running activities at her centre in Meadowbank. This year, she is leading a national effort across all of Affinity Education’s 190 centres across Australia to raise much needed funds for children in foster care and has set herself the ambitious goal of raising $10,000.

“The Pyjama Foundation do such amazing work by supporting vulnerable children in foster care through a range of programs. We’ve had lots of success with raising funds in the past – including a viral video – so, why not see how far we can go this year?” she says.

There are currently more than 46,000 children in foster care in Australia. The Pyjama Foundation, founded by 2009 Queensland Australian of the Year, Bronwyn Sheenan, aims to create ‘positive relationships for every Australian child in care; empowering them with learning, life skills and confidence’.

“We are blown away yet again by the support Zoe and Affinity Education have shown by getting behind our cause. Any money raised goes a long way and supports us to run our Lifel Long Learning Program and to train up our amazing volunteers – our Pyjama Angels – each of whom are matched with a child in care and provide critical literacy, numeracy, life-skills and mentoring support,” Bronwyn explains.

“And what better way to support than getting kids, their families and educators involved. We can’t wait to see them dressed up in their pyjamas later this month,” she adds.

Tori Robinson, State Manager for NSW and ACT at Affinity Education says, “We are thrilled to be able to support this important cause again this year. We see first-hand at our centres how access to high-quality education and a nurturing environment can change a child’s life for the better. We are so lucky to have passionate and driven educators like Zoe leading the way.”
